Fight Inequality Alliance global gatheringBrazil, 25-28 June 2018 REGISTER ONLINE
Registrations are open for the 2018 annual global gathering of the Fight Inequality Alliance. This year we will be in Latin America, in the amazing Florestan Fernandes National School (ENFF) in Guarerema, near Sao Paulo, Brazil from 25-28 June. It is a training school founded and run by the MST (Brazil's Landless People’s Movement), so the perfect venue for our gathering.
This the first global gathering of the alliance on Latin American soil (with the previous gatherings being in South Africa, Philippines and Denmark), and we hope that you will be able to join us.
We are gathering because it is critical time to come together as an alliance as we continue to counter the many systemic and interlinked inequality struggles we face across the world and take better collective steps to counter the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of the few.
We have much to celebrate as an alliance – our global week of action in January was our most powerful yet, we have many national alliances starting to re-shape the discourse on inequality in their contexts and undertaking campaigning on inequality fighting budgets, for promises in election campaigns and much more. We are growing substantially – our collective reach and voice is more powerful than ever. And we have exciting plans ahead in our national contexts, and at the upcoming annual meetings for the World Bank and IMF in Bali, Indonesia, as well as next year’s January week of action. This is a great basis from us to build on and learn from.
However, we remain far from the just, equal and sustainable world we have come together to achieve. Wealth and power continue to concentrate in the hands of the few, and the struggles, injustices and repression faced daily by those on the frontlines of inequality across the world remain stark.
Please find below more information on the alliance and the gathering in Brazil. We hope that you will find your way to Brazil to continue this important journey together.
The global gathering (26-27 June) will take place near Sao Paulo, Brazil (a transfer will be provided from Sao Paulo airport for the hour plus drive to the venue). Please complete the online registration form for the meeting here. You must arrive in Sao Paulo on 25 June for transfer to the venue, and you will be ready to leave on 28 June.
Due to budget constraints we are looking for participants to be self-funding (flights, accommodation at the ENFF, transfer, etc). We do have a very small number of places we are able to fund centrally which will be allocated per region, and priority given to women and youth leaders, social movements and smaller organisations.
A full logistics note will be supplied to you after initial registration.
The global gathering will bring together existing members, those involved in convening national and regional alliances, existing networks, new organisations, artists/musicians, social movement leaders and friends who can provide challenge and support to our collective thinking from a wide range of countries.
The global gathering will:
- set direction for the alliance for 2019 onwards (from national to regional to international level)
- build our national level alliance campaigning – learn from each other, and build on synergies
- plan for upcoming global mobilisations
- develop our ways of organising
- build stronger and more diverse relationships amongst us
A detailed agenda for the meeting will be prepared shortly for input from participants. Please contact Marina Falcao email@example.com with any logistical queries.REGISTER ONLINE
