Name: Farooq Tariq

Farooq Tariq serves on multiple international bodies advancing social justice across Asia, including the Global Council of the Fight Inequality Alliance, the executive committee of the Asian Peoples Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD), and the International Organising Committee of the Asia Europe Peoples Forum (AEPF). A longtime democracy and human rights advocate, he spent eight years in exile during General Zia's dictatorship and was arrested 12 times under Musharraf's regime for defending democratic rights. He holds a Masters in Applied Psychology from the University of Punjab and has authored several books on poverty, fundamentalism, and activism in South Asia, including co-editing SAAPE's 2017 poverty report. Since 1992, he has been an active member of Pakistan's Joint Action Committee for People's Rights.
