FIGHT INEQUALITY ALLIANCE INDIA: CALL FOR PEOPLE’S BUDGET THROUGH WEEK OF ACTION!

Communities, NGOs, frontline workers and activists will mobilize in India this January to fight against inequality and ask for a pro-people recovery package from COVID-19. People will demand an end tocorporate greed and unfair concentration of power in the hands of a few.

The Government of India will announce its first union budget after the COVID 19 pandemic destroyed its economy on February 1, 2020. The announcements by India’s finance ministry are bound to affect everyone in the world’s second most populous country, making it crucial for FIA in India to mobilize around the budget session. Government of India’s previous COVID recovery packages failed to invest in public health, education and other essential services during the pandemic. Therefore, it is crucial that upcoming budget should serve the interests of all, not just the privileged.

Fight Inequality Alliance (FIA) India will organize gatherings, protests, art performances and discussions across India to ask the Finance Minister for a union budget which works for all. As a part of the Global Protest against Inequality, FIA India will organize actions in five states. Preparation for this has started with a survey underway to collect peoples’ aspirations from the budget.
