Ceasefires are not the answer - the war must end. We are paying the price for a crisis we didn’t cause. People in Iran, Lebanon, and the region are being killed, energy bills are rising, food costs more, and cooking fuel is scarce. Public services are at breaking point as countries are pushed deeper into debt. While we struggle to survive, and many are dying, fossil fuel companies and war corporations are making record profits. Our governments are protecting them instead of us. This must change.

Here’s what needs to  happen now:

  1. End the war completely and permanently -
Civilians have  lost their lives, their homes, and futures due to US and Israeli bombs. Ceasefires are not enough, this illegal war must end. Every day of fighting brings more death, more hunger, and pushes more families, especially women and children, into crisis. The people of Iran and Lebanon, and in the region are suffering the most drastic impacts. At the same time war drives up energy and food prices worldwide, pushing countries into deeper debt while corporations, fossil fuel and arms companies, and the richest, profit. Governments must secure a permanent end to wars and protect civilians.

  2. Make the profiteers pay -
In just one month of war, over $100 billion has been taken from people through soaring energy prices. That money could have powered 150 million homes with renewable energies. We need to:
    1. Tax windfall profits - make fossil fuel companies pay their fair share on the huge profits they are making.
    2. Use the new money from taxes to guarantee public services and provide immediate support to families and precarious workers hit hardest by soaring food and fuel prices.

  3. Make food and energy secure for all -
    1. Invest public money in sustainable local farming and homegrown renewable energy, and stop harmful handouts to weapons, fossil fuels and fossil fertilizer.
    2. Urgently roll out renewable energy solutions for farms, homes, schools and clinics to protect them from this and future energy crises.

  4. Cancel debt -
After paying interest to Wall Street lenders, bankers, and rich governments, many Global South countries have no money left over to protect their people from this crisis. Lenders and governments must:
    1. Cancel debt payments and agree fairer global debt rules
    2. Support informal workers, farm laborers, women, and older people, and guarantee  universal access to healthcare, education, and public transport.

This war is their business and our pain. Our governments must end the war, tax the profits and invest in people and the planet.
