Across Zambia, women are doing something quietly radical: saving together, lending to each other, and keeping money circulating within their own communities.

Women's Village Banking collectives provide affordable credit outside of formal banking systems — no collateral, no exclusions, no red tape. For women navigating the rising cost of living, these groups are a lifeline. They're also proof that economic resilience doesn't have to come from above.

It can be built, right here, by the people who need it most.

Pakistan · Ride, Roll, Lead

"Reclaiming the streets — one ride at a time."

In Karachi, a group of women got on their bikes — and refused to get off.

Ride, Roll, Lead is Pakistan's first women's cycling initiative, pushing for bike-friendly infrastructure and the right of women to be visible, present, and active in public spaces. In a city designed around cars and fuel, this is both a practical demand and a political one.

Less congestion. Less pollution. Less exclusion. More women in public life. It's a movement on wheels.

Indonesia · People's Kitchen

"Cooking together. Organising together."

Across five regions in Indonesia, communities are coming together to do something deeply human: cook and eat together.

People's Kitchen gatherings are part meal, part movement space — places where people share food, share stories, and build the kind of solidarity that no app can replace. In a world where even basic needs are increasingly privatised and priced out of reach, reclaiming the act of eating together is a quiet act of resistance.

Pakistan · Citizens' Debt Audit

"Your taxes. Your debt. Your right to know."

Pakistan's public debt is growing — but who is it really serving?

The Citizens' Debt Audit puts that question directly to the public. Through open scrutiny of government loans and spending, communities are demanding that debt repayments be redirected away from creditors and back towards the people: into healthcare, education, and public services.

Transparency is power. When citizens understand where the money goes, they can demand where it should go instead.

Sri Lanka · Community Recovery Committees

"Affected by disaster — and refusing to be forgotten."

When Cyclone Ditva tore through Sri Lanka's plantation communities, the damage went far deeper than what the government recovery programmes acknowledged. Houses remained unrepaired. Compensation went missing. Families were left behind.

So communities organised themselves. Community Recovery Committees brought affected residents together to document what was happening, track government commitments, and speak directly to the authorities — on their own terms.

This is what recovery looks like when the people it's meant to serve take the wheel.

In Sri Lanka's plantation communities, the gap between what the government promised and what families actually received is stark — but hard to prove without evidence.

In Kandy, on 4 July, plantation community members affected by Cyclone Ditva will stand up and speak — directly to decision-makers, in public.

The People's Tribunal is a space where those most impacted by inequality and disaster get to present their evidence, tell their stories, and demand answers. It's democratic participation in its most direct form: no intermediaries, no spin, just communities holding power to account.

Housing justice is a human right. And it starts with being heard.

"Craft as resistance. Art as economy."

In the mountains of Chihuahua, Rarámuri artisans are weaving more than textiles — they're weaving dignified livelihoods.

Sewárima supports Rarámuri craftswomen and craftsmen through ethical trade, co-creation, and skills-building — placing their work at the centre of a fairer value chain. It's a direct challenge to extractive models that take from communities without giving back.

When culture is protected and valued, communities are too.

Huerto Bokashi brings people together to grow fresh, affordable food — reducing dependence on corporate supply chains and putting the decision of what to grow back in community hands. In collective gardens, people share seeds, share knowledge, and build the mutual support that makes neighbourhoods resilient.

It's not just about vegetables. It's about who gets to eat well — and who decides.

Huerto Bokashi reúne a las personas para cultivar alimentos frescos y asequibles, reduciendo la dependencia de las cadenas de suministro corporativas y devolviendo la decisión de qué cultivar a manos de la comunidad. En los huertos colectivos, las personas comparten semillas, comparten conocimientos y construyen el apoyo mutuo que hace que los vecindarios sean resilientes.

"Loving football. Refusing what it's become."

With the World Cup arriving in Mexico, the pressure to celebrate FIFA's mega-event is everywhere. But not everyone is buying it.

Fifas Anti Fifas is a group of men using the World Cup moment to interrogate what football has come to mean: corporate profits, territorial displacement, and a version of masculinity built on competition and violence. Through public conversations and actions in Mexico City, they're reclaiming football as something communal, caring, and critical.

You can love the game and refuse the machine behind it.

"Our neighbourhood is not a stadium backdrop."

In Santa Úrsula Coapa — the neighbourhood surrounding Mexico's biggest World Cup stadium — residents are organising.

The Asamblea Antimundialista isn't against football. It's against what follows the megaevent: rising rents, displacement, gentrification, and the transformation of living communities into investment corridors. They're reclaiming public space through street football, community activities, and collective political education.

The World Cup comes and goes. The community stays. And it's fighting back.

En Santa Úrsula Coapa — el barrio que rodea al estadio más grande de México para la Copa Mundial — los vecinos se están organizando.

La Asamblea Antimundialista no está en contra del fútbol. Está en contra de lo que sigue al megaevento: aumento de los alquileres, desplazamiento, gentrificación y transformación de comunidades vivas en corredores de inversión. Están reclamando el espacio público a través del fútbol callejero, actividades comunitarias y educación política colectiva.

La Copa del Mundo va y viene. La comunidad se queda. Y está respondiendo.

Zimbabwe · Youth-Led Re-industrialisation

"Zimbabwe's young people aren't waiting to be employed. They're demanding an economy that works."

With 76% of Zimbabwe's economy informal and youth unemployment rising, young activists are making a blunt argument: the system needs to change structurally, not just tinker at the edges.

The push for re-industrialisation — value-added manufacturing in mining and agriculture — is a demand for an economy built for the many, not the few. It's youth-led, politically clear, and rooted in the everyday reality of young Zimbabweans who can't afford to wait.

Zimbabwe · Street Lighting Campaign

"Safety is not a luxury."

Across Zimbabwe's cities, towns and villages, the lights are off. Residents pay their local authority fees every month for street lighting — and the streets stay dark.

Residents' Associations are organising to hold local authorities accountable for one of the most basic public services: lighting the streets so people can move safely after dark. It's a seemingly small ask with a profound impact — on safety, employment, and citizens' trust in institutions.

"Healthcare that starts in the community — not in a waiting room you can't afford."

In rural Eswatini, getting healthcare often means travelling far, paying fees that stretch already thin budgets, and hoping the facility is open and stocked.

Community Health Solutions brings healthcare closer to the people who need it most — through locally-designed health programmes, community health workers, and prevention-first approaches that don't wait for people to get sick before engaging them.

Health justice begins at community level. So does the fight for it.

Eswatini · Community Food & Livelihood Networks

"When food prices rise, communities grow their own solutions."

Across Eswatini, women's groups, farmers, and youth are responding to the cost-of-living squeeze the most direct way possible: by growing food together, buying in bulk, and creating local markets that keep affordable produce within reach.

These networks aren't just about food security — they're about economic independence. They reduce reliance on corporate supply chains, build local resilience, and ensure that when prices spike, communities have somewhere to turn.

Collective care is the original safety net.

Côte d'Ivoire · Advocacy for Tax Justice

"Less tax on food. More money in people's pockets."

In Côte d'Ivoire, the price of basic goods keeps rising — and taxation on essentials is a major driver. Just last week, fuel rose by 50 francs per litre. The ripple effects hit transport, food prices, and the everyday cost of living.

FIA Côte d'Ivoire is calling on the government to act: reduce taxes on food staples, increase support for local farmers, and redirect public resources towards the people bearing the heaviest burden of inequality.

Good governance isn't just about managing money. It's about whose lives that money protects.

En Côte d'Ivoire, le prix des produits de base continue d'augmenter — et la taxation des produits essentiels en est un facteur majeur. Rien que la semaine dernière, le carburant a augmenté de 50 francs le litre. Les effets d'entraînement se font sentir sur les transports, les prix des denrées alimentaires et le coût de la vie au quotidien.

FIA Côte d'Ivoire appelle le gouvernement à agir : réduire les taxes sur les denrées alimentaires de base, accroître le soutien aux agriculteurs locaux, et réorienter les ressources publiques vers les populations qui portent le plus lourd fardeau des inégalités.

La bonne gouvernance ne consiste pas seulement à gérer l'argent. Il s'agit de savoir quelles vies cet argent protège.

Peru · Juntanza Popular de Corposentires y Tierras

“Bodies, land, and power — reclaimed together.”

In Chiclayo, on 4–5 July, the Juntanza Popular de Corposentires y Tierras brings together indigenous, Afro-Peruvian, feminist, trans, and youth movements — not just to protest, but to strategise. Alongside it runs the Popular School of Strategy and Unity: two months of political education built on the conviction that lasting change requires not just anger, but a shared vision for what comes next.

Political crisis is not solved by waiting for the right election. It is solved by building collective power that no government can ignore.

Peru · Juntanza Popular de Corposentires y Tierras

"Cuerpos, tierra y poder — reclamados juntos."

En Chiclayo, los días 4 y 5 de julio, la Juntanza Popular de Corposentires y Tierras reúne a movimientos indígenas, afroperuanos, feministas, trans y jóvenes, no solo para protestar, sino para elaborar estrategias. Junto a ella se desarrolla la Escuela Popular de Estrategia y Unidad: dos meses de educación política construidos sobre la convicción de que el cambio duradero requiere no solo indignación, sino una visión compartida de lo que viene después.

La crisis política no se resuelve esperando las elecciones correctas. Se resuelve construyendo un poder colectivo que ningún gobierno puede ignorar.

Ecuador · Arte Contra el Imperio

“Art is not decoration. It’s declaration.”

Ecuador is living through converging crises — austerity, political instability, and growing repression. Artists and communities are refusing silence.

On 4 July at Parque Centenario, Arte Contra el Imperio brings together 10 artists and 200 participants in a public festival of music, expression, and political art. It is a festival and a declaration at once. Culture here is not entertainment — it is the language through which communities name what is happening to them.

Ecuador's streets are the stage. The people are the programme.

Ecuador está viviendo crisis convergentes: austeridad, inestabilidad política y represión creciente. Artistas y comunidades rechazan el silencio.

El 4 de julio en el Parque Centenario, Arte Contra el Imperio reúne a 10 artistas y 200 participantes en un festival público de música, expresión y arte político. Es un festival y una declaración a la vez. La cultura aquí no es entretenimiento — es el lenguaje a través del cual las comunidades nombran lo que les sucede.

Las calles de Ecuador son el escenario. Las personas son el programa.

India · Community Solidarity Networks

“Where institutions fail, communities hold.”

Across India, Dalit women, trans persons, Adivasi communities, sanitation workers, and survivors of discrimination face a system not designed for them. When formal institutions exclude rather than protect, communities build their own.

Feminist-led, trans-led, and Dalit-led collectives are creating networks of solidarity — providing accompaniment, legal rights education, and access to identity documents and welfare schemes that people were never told they had.

Gathering on 27 June, India's movements show what solidarity looks like when the state falls short — and what a different world looks like when communities build it themselves.
